This rich cake is sure to be the most requested dessert at your party or get together. It is full of decadent and nostalgic flavors, and made with simple ingredients which is how we like our recipes around here!
Old Fashioned Peanut Butter Cake
Ingredients
Cake
- 2 Cups Flour
- 1 Cup Granulated Sugar
- 1 Cup Brown Sugar
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- 1 tsp Salt
- ½ Cup Butter
- 1 Cup Water
- ½ Cup Creamy Peanut Butter
- ½ Cup Olive Oil
- 2 Eggs
- ½ Cup Buttermilk
- 1 tsp Vanilla
Frosting
- ½ Cup Butter
- ½ Cup Creamy Peanut Butter
- 6 Tbsp Buttermilk
- 1 tsp Vanilla
- 3 Cups Powdered Sugar
The Grand Finale (Garnish)
- ¼ Cup Roasted Peanuts
- ¼ Cup Mini Chocolate Chips
Instructions
Cake
- Preheat oven to 350 °F and grease a 9×13 pan
- Whisk together first 5 ingredients in a large bowl and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan over medium- high heat, heat water and butter until it comes to a boil. Remove from heat and whisk in peanut butter and oil until smooth and well combined. Let mixture cool for 5 minutes or so, then whisk in eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla until smooth.
- Pour mixture into dry ingredients and whisk until just combined. Don't overmix.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the middle of the cake comes out clean. Set cake aside to cool while preparing the frosting.
Frosting
- In a medium saucepan over med-high heat, combine butter, peanut butter, and buttermilk and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and whisk in vanilla and powdered sugar 1 cup at a time, until smooth. Pour over cake evenly. (If your frosting isn't pourable, add a touch more buttermilk.)
The Grand Finale (Garnish)
- Sprinkle peanuts and mini chocolate chips evenly over the top of the frosting. Let sit long enough for frosting to crust over (about 30 minutes to 1 hour), slice and serve!
