This is a very old recipe and there are variations of it all over the place and for good reason- it’s so easy, and so simple, but oh so good!

Old Fashioned Skillet Hash

Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Total Time 35 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 Russet Potatoes Peeled and Diced cut into bite sized pieces
  • 1 lb Ground Beef
  • 1 White or Yellow Onion Diced
  • 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
  • 4 Cloves Minced Garlic
  • 1 Tbsp Italian Seasoning
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • ½ tsp Black Pepper
  • 2 ½ Cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese

Instructions

  • Boil cubed potatoes in medium pot until almost fork tender, but not cooked all the way through- about 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  • In a large skillet over medium high heat, cook ground beef until browned and no longer pink. Drain fat and put in a bowl and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, over medium heat, add vegetable oil and onion. Cook until onion is soft and translucent- about 5 minutes. Add potatoes, Italian seasoning, garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix well and cook until potatoes start to brown, about 5-7 minutes, stirring often.
  • Add ground beef back to skillet and mix thoroughly. Add cheese and stir until melted.
  • Remove from heat and serve hot. Enjoy!
