Raise your hand it you were a fan of the sitcom “Roseanne”! I was for sure! If you were a fan, you have definitely heard of a Loose Meat Sandwich. I set out to find out exactly what a Loose Meat Sandwich was and got the general idea it was a sloppy joe style, deconstructed cheeseburger. Here is our family’s delicious take on the iconic sandwich. We love pairing it with some fries, or a big fresh salad straight from the garden!

Course Main Course
Cuisine American

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp Olive Oil
  • ½ Yellow Onion, diced
  • 1 ½ lb Ground Beef
  • 1 clove Garlic, minced
  • 2 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • ¼ Cup Yellow Mustard
  • 2 Tbsp Ketchup
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • Dill Pickles, sliced into chips
  • 4-6 Hamburger Buns

Instructions

  • Heat oil in large skillet over medium to medium high heat. Add onion and cook until translucent, stirring occasionally.
  • Add ground beef and break up into small crumbles. Season with salt and pepper and brown thoroughly.
  • To the browned meat, add garlic, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and ketchup. Bring to a light simmer and cook 5 minutes, or until mixture begins to caramelize.
  • Pile mixture onto hamburger buns and load with pickles to taste. Serve immediately.

Notes

Ground turkey works well with this recipe, and we added cheese to our sandwiches. The meat mixture is also pretty wet, like a sloppy joe, so toast your buns if you have the time to crisp them up!
